FAQs
Do you supply the coin? Can I?
Yes and yes! The default ordering on this site assumes that I will supply the coin for you. You are more than welcome to supply the coin though! Whether it be a sentimental coin or unique in some way, I’ll be happy to craft a ring from your coin. Please click on “contact” and let me know what you have. Do not order a ring from this site if you plan on providing the coin please. These rings are all a little different and will cost less. We will work out the details together.
How long am I going to have to wait for my order?
Your patience is appreciated, as all orders are made just for you; I do not hold an inventory. Generally, an order will be complete and ready for pickup or shipment within one to five days after production has begun. That estimate is based on having a donor coin on-hand. While I do stock donor coins, specific year requests (especially within the last thirty) may need to be ordered. The best coin source so far has proven to simply be eBay. When that is the case, we are at the mercy of the eBay seller to move quickly but your coin will be ordered within hours if I do not have it on-hand. Orders are completed in the order which they are received.
Wait… isn’t this illegal? Are you defacing government property?
Section 331 of Title 18, Chapter 17, of the United States Code specifies that the mutilation of US coins is only illegal if there is fraudulent intent; that would be, for example, making a nickel out to look like a quarter and then attempting to pass the nickel off as twenty-five cents.
Making or owning a coin ring is not illegal and no different than the penny smashers that you may see at a popular tourist attraction.
How are prices determined?
Cost is determined by looking at the value of the donor coin and/or other material for production as well as time spent to craft it. The silver content in coins adds value on its own; silver fluctuated between $21.60 and $29.49 per ounce in 2020. The availability, quality, and accepted value of a coin are the biggest factors surrounding ring price. Crafting is only a small factor. An example of a crafting cost is best illustrated in half dollars- Franklin and Kennedy silver half dollars are valued similarly but Franklins are more difficult to craft into a ring so they are slightly more expensive.
Can I pay for my purchase with a silver coin instead of other forms of payment?
Yes! See the contact tab and email or submit a message with what you have and would be willing to trade.
Can I wear my ring to the gym?
Yes! You can wear it to and from the gym but ya better take it off when you walk through the door, especially silver rings! Silver is very soft when put up against steel or other hard surfaces and will scratch. I cannot fix this! Non-silver rings are a little more resilient but next time you’re splitting wood, lifting weights, or fixing your broken-down F-150, it’s recommended to remove your rings!
What is your return policy?
These products are custom-made to order and are not stocked. Returns for defects in craftsmanship are accepted only if reported within seven days of receipt of the product. Refunds or exchanges are made within three to five business days of receiving and processing your return. We do not refund shipping costs.
Finishes are guaranteed only to be free from defects when new. Finishes wear and change, developing a character of their own and making your product unique to the wearer. Repairs on finishes will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
Rings originally purchased from Fud’s Coin Rings will be resized if found to fit uncomfortably, at any time, without limit, as long as the structure of the ring will allow continued manipulation. Return shipping for resizing will be paid by the buyer.
